As the Senior Planner, you will lead a team of planners and planning technicians responsible for both current and long-range planning.  You will strive for sound and innovative approaches to land use planning.  Reporting to the Planning Manager, your team will process applications for subdivision, condominium, redistricting, and statutory plan amendments in established and new neighbourhoods in the northeast and southwest quadrants of the City.  You and your team will lead policy development for the City’s revitalizing downtown, a variety of inter-municipal issues, and the commercial corridor recently approved by Council as a future LRT route.

You will also carry out feasibility studies, needs assessments, and research studies.  You will be involved in research and policy development; analyzing implications and making logical, clearly reasoned recommendations to decision makers.  You will have an ability to learn and work with Provincial legislation (Municipal Government Act; Subdivision and Development Regulation), Statutory Plans (Municipal Development Plan; Area Structure Plans), and various municipal bylaws, policies, procedures, and standards.  Understanding of and direct experience with land subdivision is preferred.

HOURS OF WORK
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off every two weeks).

The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
A University degree in Urban/Regional Planning, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 
Must be eligible for full or provisional membership in CIP.  Fully certified RPP, MCIP members of the Institute are preferred. 
Preferably 7+ years of planning experience, preferably at the municipal level (including plan and policy drafting, analysis, and preparation),
A demonstrated ability to use sound judgment, initiative, and creativity to lead planning projects to successful completion. 
Sound research skills, strong organizational skills, well-honed writing and communication skills, and the ability to build and manage a team and manage a very challenging and varied workload. 
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate positive interactions with internal and external stakeholders. 
The ability for big-picture strategic thinking, with a regional perspective, anticipating and making recommendations on inter-municipal considerations.

Salary & Benefits

COMPENSATION
$89,672 - $109,100 per annum.  In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive flexible benefit package.
