We are looking for motivated individuals willing to aspire to a new challenge and become a member of our Fire Prevention team. In your role as a Fire Prevention Officer, you will serve under the direction of the Fire Marshal, reporting to your assigned Captain Fire Prevention Officer.
Fire prevention includes inspection, public education, and securing compliance with codes, standards and bylaws. In this role you will:
- Conduct inspections of buildings, structures and places in an assigned area to identify and locate fire hazards and ensuring compliance with the Safety Codes Act, the Alberta Fire Code and related City Bylaws
- Confirm building fire alarm systems, fire pumps, stand pipe systems, sprinkler systems, emergency power generator systems, smoke control systems, elevator control systems are functional and approving fire safety plans
- Review and interpret technical reports; examine building plans; research the behaviour of material and substances; conduct seminars and making presentations on fire safety and fire prevention
- Review and approve Construction Site Safety Plans
- Issue Field Notices, corrective Letters and Orders under the Safety Codes Act
- Participate in safety promotions throughout the community, partnerships with the private sector and some project work
- Create and present public safety education and awareness programs
- Completion of Grade 12
- Building Construction Engineering Technology Diploma will be considered an asset
- Five (5) years experience in construction is required, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience OR five years experience as a member of Edmonton Fire Rescue Service
- Must possess a Fire Safety Codes Level I officer qualification; a Building Safety Codes Officer qualification will be considered an asset
- Must obtain Safety Codes Officer and Fire Inspector Level II certification within 24 months of appointment
- Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License
- You will be required to supply your own vehicle, with appropriate business insurance, for use on City business and will be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton Car Allowance Policy
- Physically able to perform the job functions which include but are not limited to frequent walking on uneven surfaces and lifting and carrying equipment
Hours of Work: Normal hours of work are from 08:00 - 17:20, Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, on a four day work week cycle. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program. Three shift changes annually
Salary Range: 30P, Salary Grade: 001, $35.170 - $52.031 (Hourly), $68,845.280 - $101,850.680 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton
