The Oshawa Senior Citizens Centres (OSCC) and its community operations are non-profit, multi-purpose community facilities for adults aged 55 and over.

The Executive Director provides leadership support to the Board of Directors of the OSCC; leads the development and implementation of the OSCC strategic, and operational plans; provides leadership in the development, implementation and delivery of programs and services to promote health, welfare and happiness and foster senior empowerment, social interactions, public education and advocacy of seniors, and provides overall strategic leadership to the organization the staff and volunteers of the OSCC by fostering an environment of innovation supporting the City's core values: Authenticity, Courage and Trust (ACT).

Job Responsibilities

Duties include providing administrative and leadership support to the Board of Directors while also advising the board on strategic implications of business plans, continual daily support to staff and volunteers, guidance in developing the OSCC provincial and municipal business plans (i.e. Ministry of Health and Long Term Care/Local Health Integrated Network), overall management of the facility; leadership in the development, implementation and delivery of programs and services to ensure promotion of health, welfare and contentment, serving as a key link with the cities functions and initiatives, leading in the coordination and preparation of key information for the annual OSCC business plan, partaking in the centres operation through financial and budget management, monitoring progress of IT systems and Joint Health and Safety committee meetings, promoting the OSCC throug h development of programs and guidelines that respond to the needs of the citizens, representing the organization in all aspects of media and public relations acting as the principle spokesperson, communicating policy changes within the context of the cities direction, preparing annual budget through consultation with the finance and administration manager, researching funding sources, overseeing development of fundraising plans, writing funding proposals and ensuring financial practises are consistent with and support the mission, vision and guiding principles of the organization while adhering to applicable financial policies and procedures of the City of Oshawa.

Requirements

Completion of a University degree in Not-For-Profit Management, Human/Social Services, or Community Development, an additional certification in volunteer management or gerontology to complement the degree would be an asset. First Aid and C.P.R Certification is mandatory. The designated position also requires a minimum of five (5) years senior management experience, including experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors and knowledge of policy governance.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written are an asset, to serve as a spokesperson and to visit multiple sites of the OSCC and related associations/agencies.

Comfort in calculating and analyzing figures is required in drafting and justifying the annual budget, monitoring all expenditures and analysing statistical reports on activities.

Possess a willing and co-operative attitude, personal qualities of maturity and reliability are required.
