Description
Reporting to the Manager, Operations, Maintenance and Monitoring, and under the day-to-day work direction of the Senior Team Lead, performs operations and maintenance activities supporting the optimal operation of wastewater treatment plants and associated pumping stations, ground water systems, water treatment plants, associated booster stations and the transmission system to meet Provincial Acts and Regulations and Regional standards.

Requirements
  • Post Secondary Diploma/Certificate in Environmental Sciences (2 or 3 years) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MOE valid certification(s) in Water Level 1 (water treatment or distribution and supply) and Wastewater Level I (wastewater treatment or collection), and successful completion of courses in Confined Space Entry, CPR and First Aid.
  • Demonstrated field experience working directly in water/wastewater facilities with completion of training courses and certification(s) as designated by Provincial Acts and Regulations, and field experience and certification(s) Level to the legislated standard required at the assigned facility.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical electrical equipment and pump maintenance procedures.
  • A valid Class “G” drivers’ licence, clear of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of system hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of the OH&S Act and relevant Provincial Acts and Regulations.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control technique in using PCS/SCADA to manage and operate water and wastewater operations.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
  • General proficiency utilizing MS Office software applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook and ability to use ISO Soft, PCS/SCADA and CWMS business application.
  • Ability to interpret operating manuals and engineering drawings relevant to the design and construction of facilities and the operation of equipment.
  • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations to determine chemical dosages and flow rates, and ability to apply laboratory procedures and sampling techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Physical stamina and ability to climb on or into elevated tanks, work in confined spaces, manholes, sewers, treatment tanks and wet wells, and work with hazardous chemicals and near high voltage electrical equipment.
  • Ability to physically withstand long periods of standing, walking, climbing and heavy lifting; work in a noisy environment and work in all/extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus to enter confined spaces.
  • Availability and ability to perform standby duties, respond to emergency situations and work outside normal scheduled hours, as required.
Salary & Benefits

$27.38 - $29.76 per hour. This is a Union position.
