ROADS FOREPERSON

Responsible for:
Assisting the Roads Supervisor in the planning, delegating, coordinating, performance and evaluation of maintenance, repair and administrative work related to the operation of the City’s roads, sidewalks, curbs, traffic signs, street lights, traffic signals, watercourses, catch basins, boulevards, bridges and associated winter control operations; including salting/sanding, ploughing, windrow clearing, snow removal. Payroll documentation, inventory control, field purchasing, processing of invoices and hired equipment forms. Monitoring City staff and hired contractors with the responsibility of providing technical on-the-job leadership to internal and contracted crew members carrying out road maintenance related tasks.
- Successful completion of a Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent, with additional course work related to road maintenance/construction techniques.
- Obtain and maintain designation as a “Certified Road Supervisor”, by the Association of Ontario Road Superintendents.
- Minimum of three (3) progressively more responsible years of experience related to the construction and maintenance of roads including one (1) year of coordinating the work of others preferably within a municipal unionized environment.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, contractors etc. and executes duties in a tactful and courteous manner. Maintains neat appearance and performs duties in a way which conveys a ‘positive image’ of the City.
- Ability to prepare and interpret drawings, plans etc., and communicates the same to others.
- Capable of accurately completing required forms and reports.
- “Competent” person as defined by the Health and Safety Regulations.
- Valid class “G”, driver’s license, as issued by the Province of Ontario, with willingness to obtain class “DZ” if required.
- Proficient in computer applications, including, but not limited to Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.), CTMS, PeopleSoft, etc.
- Maintain valid First Aid / CPR Certificate in accordance with Department Policy.
- Obtain and maintain Certificate in Ontario Traffic Manual, Book 7.
