Description
 

This is supervisory recreational work coordinating recreational activities and programs to meet the needs and interests of youth across the municipality.  An incumbent plans, assigns, supervises and checks the work of a moderate sized group of full-time and auxiliary subordinates; coordinates the operations of a youth centre; liaises with a variety of contacts in organizing and implementing activities and programs; works with a variety of youth committees; and establishes and maintains effective community liaison and public relations.  An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgment, action and initiative within the limits of established policies, procedures and guidelines.  Unusual problems and policy matters are referred to a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of effectiveness, quality of programs provided and attainment of desired results.

 

Requirements

 

·         Graduation from a community college or university program in child and youth care or related discipline, plus considerable related experience including supervisory experience and conflict resolution. An equivalent combination of training and experience as acceptable to the employer may be considered.

·         Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of organized community recreation for youth.

·         Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the work performed.

·         Considerable knowledge of the recreational needs and interests of youth, of trends and potential future direction of youth services.

·         Ability to coordinate the operations of a youth centre and related recreational activities and programs to meet the needs and interests of youth.

·         Ability to plan, assign, supervise and check the work of a moderate sized group of full-time and auxiliary staff and to participate in the hiring, training, evaluation and motivation of same.

·         Ability to identify potential problems and suggest appropriate solutions.

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with groups, associations and the public.

·         Ability to understand, relate to and establish rapport with all youth.

·         Ability to participate in budget preparation and monitor accounts, and to prepare requisitions, reports, records and correspondence.

 Valid BC Class 4 driver’s license is considered an asset.

Valid First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset.

The successful applicant must be able to pass and maintain a criminal and police record check.

SALARY:

$51,755 - $60,887 annually + 12% in lieu of all benefits

This position is required to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekends.
