The City of Albert is accepting applications for a new position within the Legislative Services Department. As the Legislative Initiatives Coordinator, you will utilize your well developed project management skills and strong understanding of municipal legislation and policy in leading a number of components of major initiatives the department is responsible for.

Under the direction of Chief Legislative Officer you will be responsible for:
 

  • Leading a systematic multi-year bylaw and policy review
  • Municipal election and election year projects
  • Municipal census projects
  • Department analytics

 
These responsibilities will include the planning, organization, delivery, reporting and evaluation for many components of all the above projects. Relative to the Election and Census this will include report writing, development of short-term plans and training manuals, and assisting with the recruitment and monitoring of officials. It will also involve acquisition of vendors, contract management and significant logistical coordination. The role requires frequent collaboration and communicating with employees across the organization at various levels, often with department directors and program managers and Council. The position is well suited to someone who has an aptitude for process and detail combined with the ability to collect, analyze and write summaries and reports on data and statistics.

HOURS OF WORK
Compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off every two weeks).
 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • We seek candidates with prior employment (minimum 3 years) in a municipal or directly related environment, or completion of the Municipal Internship Program.
  • Preferred candidates will have a high level of understanding of the municipal policy and legislative framework, experience with project management, and experience with various municipal software packages relevant to the Legislative Services department.
  • The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Political Science, Public Administration or a related field, or graduation from the National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration (NACLAA) program. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • You must possess highly developed writing and editing skills and excellent verbal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Municipal Government Act, Local Authorities Election Act, and the Determination of Population Regulation and other related municipal legislation will be beneficial.
  • Presentation skills are a strong asset, as the Coordinator will lead training sessions.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting and moving loads weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds).
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
Salary & Benefits

SALARY
$69,103 - $84,075 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive flexible benefit package.
