The duties of this person will be to carry out all aspects of the work undertaken by this Department within the scope of the position. It will be expected of this employee to consider safety of him/her self, other employees and the general public as paramount at all times.
Duties include:
- Street Maintenance, including but not limited to: gravelling, grading, patching, crack sealing, line marking, oiling, snow removal, sanding, sweeping streets and de-icing walks
- Traffic Control, including but not limited to: maintenance of street signs, traffic control signs and traffic signals
- Mosquito Control
- Maintain sewage lagoon, pump house and lift stations in the sewage system
- Maintain curb stops, valves and fire hydrants in co-operation with Fire Department and Water Treatment Plant
- Opening and closing graves
- Other duties as assigned by department
- Grade 12 or GED
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Standard First Aid & CPR / WHIMIS
- Good record of physical fitness
- Ability to work with and respect to fellow workers, management, Council and the general public
The Public Works Labourer is a union position with CUPE Local #2740. Wage is as per Labourer I in the CUPE agreement. Generally, the hours of work will be 40 hours per week and may include holidays and weekends.
