Description
Reporting to the Director, Planning Services, be responsible for the overall management and co-ordination of the Policy group. Duties include coordinating the operations of the Policy section; planning, managing and advancing assignments, development applications and the work program; hiring, supervising, assigning, directing, coaching, and disciplining staff; undertaking personnel administration duties; providing professional advice including providing expert testimony; preparing by-laws, agreements, reports on development applications and planning; implementing, enforcing, developing, reviewing and amending policies and procedures; acting as a Branch/Department/City representative in various forums; coordinating the development and maintenance of the City’s Official Plan and other planning policies; providing assistance to the Director in the administration of the Planning Services Branch including acting for the Director as required; coordinating and/or participating in Branch/Departmental projects; coordinating and/or participating in Corporate/Departmental initiatives including the periodic review and update of the City’s Development Charge by-law; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

You will possess a University degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning from a program recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners plus eight years of relevant professional planning experience, (preferably in a municipal environment), at least three of which must be in a supervisory capacity; or have the equivalent combination of formal education and relevant experience.  You have excellent PC skills and experience using relevant software applications and demonstrated management and negotiation skills.  You have excellent reasoning, research, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish good working relationships.  You must be a Registered Professional Planner (R.P.P.) and possess a valid, unrestricted Ontario Driver’s Licence, minimum Class “G”.
