TRANSIT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS OFFICER #15815

TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNITY PLANNING DEPARTMENT

YORK REGION TRANSIT BRANCH

Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 35; Scheduled Shifts: 0830 - 1630

Temporary Full-Time, Approx. 24 months, Salary $40.09 - $43.57 per hour

 

Reporting to the Program Manager, Transit Management Systems, is responsible for providing quality and client focused technology support, data and business processes for the Transit Management Systems of the Branch; supporting the installations of hardware and software upgrades and new equipment configurations; providing system support for the development, implementation, operation and maintenance of specialized Intelligent Transportation Systems and related applications including supporting Transit programs; providing staff instruction on the use of the technology; participating in technology projects related to the mandated programs and systems; and developing and maintaining technology documentation manuals.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Sciences or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years demonstrated hands on experience in analyzing and resolving technical problems, including project implementation and support, and networking design and support, for Intelligent Transportation Systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location system (CAD/AVL), Automatic Fare Collection system (AFC), Transit Signal Priority system (TSP), Passenger Information System (PIS), and Scheduling system.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and free of any serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems development processes using databases and programming languages.
  • Knowledge of transit and/or transportation industries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PC configurations, networking concepts (LAN/WAN) and Client-Server application architecture.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of technology as an enabler to business practices.
  • Sound knowledge of project management techniques, task estimation, scheduling and control.
  • Knowledge of system development life cycle, including trends in the use of current information technology specific to Transit Management Systems, business processes and the Region’s current operating environment.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications.
  • Ability to apply business and user requirements definition skills,  project implementation and problem resolving skills to front line project and system support.
  • Ability to support and maintain client software applications including troubleshooting and training of others.
  • Ability to be on call during weekends and statutory holidays to support critical transit applications, as required.
  • Ability to work shift work and work outside regular business hours, as required.
