Position: Permit Technologist

Position Summary

  • Review applications and plans for residential, institutional, commercial and industrial properties with regards to completeness of the submission, including structural, floor plans, elevations, plumbing, wiring, heating systems, sanitation, fire and safety, approvals from other agencies and complete applications;
  • Advise applicants and Building Inspectors of incomplete submissions and application issues/items requested;
  • Review of plans as needed for building permits, site plans, re-zoning and compliance letters to determine compliance with the Ontario Building Code/Act, Heritage Act, Subdivision Agreements and applicable by-laws;
  • Issue permits and prepare permits in CityView or other land management system;
  • Monthly reporting on building permit statistics (Tarion, MPAC, Stats Canada, Comparison Report, Permit by Number and Fees Breakdown);
  • Provide customer service in person, by telephone and e-mail;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications, Competencies

  • 3 year Diploma in Architectural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology plus 1 year' experience dealing with the public in: issuing permits, the enforcement of codes, standards and municipal approvals, construction and the preparation of plans; (consideration may be given to those applicants who possess a 2 year diploma, in the areas of study identified above, plus 2 years of related experience);
  • Minimum qualifications under Bill 124; Completion of the Legal/Process Examination - General, CBO, RCA or Designer, with the ability to obtain further qualifications in the future;
  • Must demonstrate the corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Oriented, Integrity and Teamwork.

  • Possess a high degree of tact and have excellent public relations skills;
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid ‘G’ driver’s licence with the ability to provide your own vehicle;
  • Ability to handle stressful situations on a regular basis;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office programs including: Word, Access and Outlook; CityView experience considered an asset;
  • Must adhere to the prescribed Code of Conduct for Inspectors.
Salary & Benefits

Hourly Rate: $23.58-$28.84 Per Hour
