The Light Rail Transit (LRT) Section of the Edmonton Transit Branch is seeking a Senior LRT Fleet Engineer to play a key role in ensuring that all components of the LRT vehicles are safe and reliable for the citizens ofEdmonton.  Are you up for the challenge?

 

Reporting to the General Supervisor, LRT Fleet Engineering & Maintenance, this position’s key accountabilities are to:

 

  • Research, develop and execute plans for acceptable maintenance and testing requirements to ensure the safety, security, functionality, and reliability of the LRT fleet and equipment
  • Develop and implement testing and commissioning programs on new or modified equipment installations to ensure they operate according to design and safety requirements.  This will include playing a key role in the testing, commissioning, and acceptance of the new PLC based camshaft controller
  • Initiate, design, and implement modifications and upgrades to the LRT Fleet and shop equipment to enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiencies
  • Provide engineering expertise to external contractors as well as to the LRT Maintenance technicians, Foremen, and support staff who provide preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair services for the LRT fleet.
  • Identify and submit capital budget requirements and assist in managing the capital budget approved for the LRT vehicle, auxiliary equipment and shop equipment
  • Prepare technical reports and provide information as required to the general public, City Council, senior management, contractors, planning staff, regulatory agencies and LRT Operations and Maintenance staff
  • Your decisions must adhere to applicable legislation and codes, demonstrate sound engineering principles, and be in accordance with City of Edmonton policies and procedures
  • Ensure that an effective preventative maintenance program for the fleet is monitored and maintained
  • Provide technical and operational recommendations and comments to other sections, Departments, Consultants, and contractors, on major construction programs that impact or involve the LRT fleet and equipment

Requirements
  • Bachelors of Science degree in an Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering discipline from a recognized university
  • Eligible to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or with the engineering association of another province of Canada.  You must have obtained your P. Eng designation prior to the positions probation period ending.
  • Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible engineering experience in LRT fleet engineering and maintenance
  • Must possess the leadership and project management skills to collaboratively lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that allow you to successfully communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to make timely decisions based on the analysis of complex technical problems and to develop best practices from the application of engineering principles
  • Experience estimating project costs, preparing budgets and tendering and administering contracts
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Google systems, and Enterprise Business Software Systems such as SAP
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license or operators licensing equivalent recognized by the Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta. Reg. 320/2002
  • Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the successful applicant to obtain business auto insurance.
  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain a satisfactory Edmonton Police Service Police Information Check Certificate from the Police Information Check Section located at # 108, 14315 118 Avenue. This can usually be obtained with only a single visit to the Police Information Check Section

 

Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of variable hours of work program.

 

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: 91M, Salary Grade PE3:  $81,920 - $117,029 (Annually). Candidates who do not meet the experience requirement may be considered at the developmental level.
