DUTIES:
- Establishes networks and working relationship with private & public sector organizations, community groups, and other stakeholders
- Contributes to the Division’s action plans designed to increase tourism, with an emphasis on meetings, conferences, conventions and sports tourism
- Prepares or assists stakeholders with the preparation of bid packages
- Initiates FAM tours with meeting planners and decision makers to increase business from this sector
- Attends conventions, tradeshows and marketplaces to promote Timmins as an ideal location and willing host for meetings, conferences, conventions and sports tourism
- Contributes to the development of publicity and marketing strategies and develops marketing materials to enhance Tourism Timmins brand
- Provides support for developing action plans for meetings, conventions, conferences and sport tourism in cooperation with Manager Tourism Timmins
- Responds to enquiries from members of the business community concerning meetings, conventions conferences and sport tourism
- Represents Timmins at various community, regional, national and international task force meetings, committee and council meetings as required
- Position responsibilities interchangeable with Co-ordinator of Festival Events and Special Projects
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Tourism Manager
- Post Secondary Education and one to three years experience in tourism, customer service, marketing and sales.
- Knowledge of tourism asset inventory
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral (public speaking)
- Working knowledge of computers (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook)
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours
- Sound knowledge of local hospitality network and sporting event venues and National, Provincial & Regional sports organizations
- Marketing & Sales ExperienceSuperior organizational skills and ability to work in a fast paced, team environment, multi task, and meet deadlines
- Bilingualism (English/French) is a definite asset
- Current and clear Criminal Background Check.
