Description
Reporting to the Program Manager, Solid Waste and Diversion, is responsible for researching, planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, coordinating and monitoring waste management procedures, programs and services for the Region and on behalf of its local municipalities in the residential, industrial, commercial and institutional sectors; auditing and monitoring program participation and trends; coordinating program changes related to emerging legislation, regulations and regional policies;  developing strategies for reduction, reuse, recycling, advocacy initiatives and continuous improvement including related public relations, promotion and education; and developing and  reviewing program, bylaws and policies for the Program Manager to meet the Region’s objectives for sustainable waste management.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in environmental studies or science or related field or equivalent approved combination of education and experience.
     
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated project management experience in the field of solid waste management or related environmental field and social marketing or major marketing campaign.
     
  • Thorough knowledge of the waste management industry and related practices and policies.
     
  • Demonstrated project management experience in the 4Rs (reduction, reuse, recycling, recovery) and pilot programs.
     
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
     
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant Provincial and Federal legislation.
     
  • Experience in administering contracts, conducting waste audits and/or advertising.
     



 


  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
     
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office applications and proficiency in word processing,  spreadsheet, scheduling, presentation applications and specialized software relevant to the technical specialty.
     
  • Strong research and evaluation skills and demonstrated skills in conducting in-depth cost/benefit analysis and program development.
     
  • Demonstrated presentation, promotional and public relations skills.
     
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical issues to stakeholders and various media and to deal effectively with the public and government officials.
     
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment when providing regulatory advice to businesses and when interacting with other government agencies.
     
  • Ability to delegate work and monitor the work of students, consultants and contractors.
     
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize work in order to meet project deadlines.
     
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
     


 

Salary & Benefits

Salary $40.88 - $44.43 per hour
