Position Summary:

Act as a key municipal resource person for current and long-term planning activities; provide key administrative support in dealing with the City’s real Estate Portfolio; provide key support and direction to the Energy Committee and the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Corporate Energy and Demand Management Plan; provide overall coordination of requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA); manage the implementation of the City’s Community Improvement Plan; and provide support for the ongoing development of the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS).

 

Duties:

  • Assist the Manager of Planning with day-to-day activities (building permit review, zoning confirmations, minor zoning by-law amendment, Committee of Adjustment support, etc.)
  • Provide key administrative support in dealing with the City’s Real Estate Portfolio (i.e. land sales, leases and agreements);
  • Compile key research, statistics and background materials in support of Corporate and Departmental policy/legislation and special project development and management;
  • Provide support to the City’s Committee of Adjustment;
  • Work with the City’s Municipal Advisory Accessibility Committee in identifying and removing barriers and ensuring the City is in compliance with the AODA.
  • Ensure that the City meets the requirements under the Green Energy Act;
  • Assist with ongoing support of the GIS program;
  • Review, evaluate and recommend approval of various Community Improvement Plan grant and incentive programs;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  • University Graduate with specialization in areas related to planning, economic development, community development, public administration, political science, or a related field;
     
  • A minimum of four (4) years prior work experience in the economic/community development or planning field and preferably at the municipal or other government levels;
     
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Official Plans and Zoning By-law documents as well as the consent and minor variance approval processes;
     
  • Familiarity with leases, appraisals, inventories, land sales and other property related matters;
     
  • Familiarity with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and associated Accessibility Standards as well as the Green Energy Act and related regulations;
     
  • Strong organization, public relations, and project management skills;
     
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Power Point and (GIS),
     
  • Current and clear Criminal Background Check
     
  • Membership in the Ontario Professional Planner’s Institute and the Economic Developer’s Association of Canada would be an asset; and
     
  • Fluency in both official languages (French and English) is a definite asset.
