• Grade 12 supplemented by a certificate in a secretarial program or equivalent, plus considerable related experience in senior level secretarial work, preferably in a municipal setting.
• Thorough knowledge of business English, shorthand, spelling and punctuation.
• Considerable knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and other provisions governing the work performed and of the functions and objectives of the committees served.
• Proficient in MSWord, Excel, and Outlook; general knowledge of electronic document management systems and time keeping programs such as Kronos is preferred.
• Sound knowledge of the operations and functions of various departments as related to the work performed.
• Working knowledge of the Local Government Act, Community Charter and by-laws related to the work performed.
• Ability to coordinate meeting arrangements, prepare and distribute agenda and supporting material, and distribute minutes.
• Ability to prepare, process and check a variety of reports, documents and correspondence related to the work.
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.
• Ability to demonstrate superior organizational skills.
• Ability to demonstrate superior clerical aptitude and to operate a variety of common office equipment and knowledge of word processing equipment and software including Microsoft Office Suite. (Minimum typing speed of 55 wpm minimum)
